These developmental meets provide opportunities for children to be active, sharpen their skills, and develop as track and field athletes. Coaches may bring up to 40 children per meet, in accordance with the Chancellor’s Regulations, the number of teams allowed to register for each meet will be limited based on venue capacity. The NYRR DTFS City Championship meet has a limit of 16 total students for elementary school and 16 total students for middle school, excluding the 4x100-meter relay qualifiers.
All meets, with the exception of the NYRR DTFS City Championship, take place during the school day between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. as an extension of your school’s physical education program. It is critical that schools arrive at the meets between 9:30 and 10:15 a.m. to allow time to warm up and for a coaches meeting at 10:15 a.m. Events will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m.

Staff and officials will lead short training sessions before each event. The event staff will also provide feedback to help students after they have completed the race, jump, or throw. Participating students will receive athlete ribbons at all meets.

Because of the nature of these meets and the limited time, the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter run, 800-meter run (elementary only), 1600-meter (middle school only), shot put, and long jump will be offered, but not timed or measured. Only the 4x100-meter relay will be timed and scored. Students will be limited to participating in two individual events, which they will choose on the day of the event.

The 4x100-meter relay will be the final event at every developmental meet. It will be the only timed event. The two teams recording the fastest time from each section, throughout the season, will qualify for the relay at the NYRR DTFS City Championship meet. Each school will be allowed to enter one team of four runners in each of the divisions.
The city-wide NYRR DTFS Championship meet will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 as the final event of the NYRR DTFS season. The meet will include Elementary (grades 3-5) and Middle School (grades 6-8) age groups. Every school that has participated in at least one previous meet will be invited to enter a team in the City Championships.
Due to the number of participating schools, space is limited. Each school is allowed to enter up to 16 total students for elementary school and up to 16 total students for middle school, excluding the 4x100 meter relay qualifiers. Students can participate in a maximum of two individual events (The 4x100 meter relay does not count toward a student’s maximum of two individual events). Coaches will have discretion to select their school’s representatives and should carefully consider the criteria they are going to use to select their athletes. Please keep in mind the developmental nature of the series and consider using participation and sportsmanship in addition to talent when deciding on the roster.
Students will receive participant ribbons at all meets. Special ribbons, medals, and/or trophies will be awarded to top individuals and teams at the NYRR DTFS City Championship meet.
